In our “Settled in” series, our colleagues who have decided to start their careers at Deutsche Börse Group share their journeys with us. Meet Alex Huber, Head of Sales Southwest Europe at 360T in Frankfurt, who joined the company in September 2021. He tells us what motivated him to work in finance, why he applied at 360T, and shares insights into his typical workday and tips for anyone looking to pursue a career in sales.

When and how did you become interested in your current field of expertise?

As a teenager, I developed an interest in economics and began reading the financial section of newspapers. It was during this time that I became fascinated with the world of foreign exchange markets as I observed the fluctuations in currencies. The thrill of analysing market data, understanding the impact of geopolitical events and economic indicators, interacting with clients, and meeting their needs all served to fuel my passion for this dynamic industry.

What motivated you to apply for a position at 360T?

I have 360 reasons why I chose to join 360T but let me narrow it down to three core ones. 360T places a strong emphasis on innovation, which enables continuous learning, both personally and professionally. The emphasis on teamwork fosters collaboration and diverse perspectives, resulting in improved solutions. Overall, these factors contribute to an environment that is beneficial for personal and professional growth.

What does a typical day in your work life look like?

Picture this: I wake up, head straight to my favourite barista for a delicious flat white and enter the exciting world of the global currency markets. First things first, I connect with my team members to stay updated on any noteworthy developments regarding our clients’ requests in different regions. Once we have dived deep into evaluating those opportunities, it is time to engage with clients – both existing and potential – using a range of communication channels. From phone calls to virtual meetings, e-mails to instant messaging platforms, we ensure their specific needs are met with tailored solutions. Presenting relevant products and services that align with their requirements is where the magic happens. Another fun part is networking and attending industry events where we meet clients with a fine glass of red wine, after which I am heading home for my favourite part of the day – spending quality time with my family.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to pursue a career in sales?

Follow your passion and become a true expert in whatever you are selling. By having an unparalleled understanding of your products, you can offer unique value to your customers. Focus on building long-term relationships rather than short-term wins, as it revolves around building trust and credibility. Embrace rejection as a steppingstone to success and make continuous learning and personal growth your top priorities. Sales is an ever evolving field and staying ahead demands constant improvement.
