Johannes Beyenbach

Why and when did you join Deutsche Börse?

I started at Deutsche Börse in October 2019 after completing my doctorate in Corporate Finance and have been working in the IT Finance, Analytics and CI team ever since. During my doctorate, I already dealt with the investment and financing behaviour of listed companies as well as with company valuation and the interaction between capital markets and companies. Of course, the stock market plays a major role in these topics in particular - which is why my interest in the company was aroused early on. In addition, I am very interested in IT topics, which is the perfect combination for me today.

What exactly are your tasks and what do you enjoy about them?

The IT Strategy/Chief of Staff department performs a central function within the CIO/COO Division and serves as an interface to many areas within the Group. The department is responsible for the strategic orientation of IT, the allocation of resources, the optimisation of the IT portfolio as well as post-merger integration. Specifically, my tasks include working on strategy development, supporting projects and initiatives within the division and preparing materials for the Executive and Supervisory Boards. The range of topics is very wide. And that's exactly what I like so much: the diversity of the topics and the opportunity to participate in the decision-making process accordingly. This also gives me a good overview of the functions and projects of Deutsche Börse. At the same time, I really appreciate the fact that I was entrusted with a high level of responsibility right from the start.

What was your first impression so far?

Because the daily work is very diverse, it can often happen that your focus changes quickly. On the one hand, this is of course a challenge, but on the other hand it always remains interesting. And when there is a lot going on, you are not alone - because we are a very open-minded and committed team, supporting each other. At the beginning it helps a lot if you can approach the team without hesitation. I also find the open management culture with flat hierarchies positive, where on the one hand the work is appreciated, but at the same time good teamwork is also valued and you can have fun and laugh together.

Do you have any advice that you would like to give to career starters?

From my point of view the most important thing is to be curious and open-minded, to get involved and to ask a lot of questions. For beginners, understanding the structure of Deutsche Börse and especially the complex system landscape in IT can be a challenge. That is why it is important to deal with it intensively from the very beginning, to take as much as possible with you and learn by asking questions.
