Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides on-demand cloud computing platforms to individuals, companies and governments, on a paid subscription basis. The technology allows customers to have at their disposal a fully-fledged virtual cluster of computers, available 24/7/365, through the internet. This way they can obtain large-scale computing capacity more quickly and cheaply than building an actual physical server farm.
Project
Development of a multi-vendor cloud strategy to move massive amounts of IT from our own data centre into the cloud. There are already many applications that could be run in the cloud and where development and testing could be moved to the cloud. Since we have thousands of products in testing, moving them to the cloud would provide many advantages in agility. Machines could be booted on the spot if needed and shut down if not needed. That would allow us, for example, to run the whole Luxembourg data in the cloud in case of a disaster recovery scenario. Being the largest cloud provider worldwide, AWS can offer us the scaling effects we need.
In close cooperation with BaFin (German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority), the Bundesbank (central bank of the Federal Republic of Germany) and AWS as well as with our internal Information Security department, we are clarifying all security issues, such as audit rights for the provider, the regulators and ourselves. Our aim is to move two major projects into the cloud by the end of 2017. The complete Product Development Lab as well as our blockchain solutions are already working in the cloud.
