Opening of ‘Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2009’ in Frankfurt
Release date: Aug 28, 2009
Exhibition on view from 28 August until 11 October at Neue Börse
Deutsche Börse presents the entries from the four finalists of the ‘Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2009’ from 28 August until 11 October. The works of prize winners Paul Graham, Emily Jacir, Tod Papageorge and Taryn Simon are being shown. The exhibition has now been opened at Neue Börse in Frankfurt-Hausen after being on display in London and Berlin.
The Deutsche Börse Photography Prize was awarded in March 2009 by the Photographers’ Gallery in London to Paul Graham (b. 1956, Great Britain) for his photo series “A Shimmer of Possibility”. Every year, the prize offers comprehensive insight into current trends in international photography. The competition recognizes contemporary photographers of any nationality who, in the opinion of the international jury, have made the most important contribution to photography as a medium over the past year. Since 2005, Deutsche Börse has been title sponsor of the prize.
The other finalists for the prize whose works are being shown at Neue Börse are: Emily Jacir (b. 1970, Palestine), selected for her solo exhibition at the Venice Biennale 2007, where she was awarded the Golden Lion for artists under the age of 40; Tod Papageorge (b. 1940, USA), nominated for his exhibition “Passing Through Eden – Photographs of Central Park” in the Michael Hoppen Gallery, London; Taryn Simon (b. 1975, USA), chosen for her exhibition “The American Index of Hidden and Unfamiliar” shown in the Photographers' Gallery, London.
