Deutsche Börse and Academy of Art and Design Photo Advancement Award 2012 presented to Lilly Lulay and Karolin Back

Release date: Jul 09, 2012

Deutsche Börse together with the Offenbach Academy of Art and Design (Hochschule für Gestaltung) presented the Deutsche Börse and Academy of Art and Design Photo Advancement Award 2012 (Deutsche Börse und HfG Fotoförderpreis) on 6 July. The award, which includes prize money of €2,500, went to two students for the first time this year: Lilly Lulay with her "Mindscapes" series and Karolin Back with her piece entitled "00:01".

Lilly Lulay's photo collages are delicate, imaginatively composed landscapes, primarily using found materials, which show a great feel for composition, range and the design potential within the medium of photography. Karolin Back's piece reveals stillness and movement in nature by overlapping photographs with negatives, creating scenic and seemingly tactile landscapes.

Lilly Lulay is studying Visual Communication, now in her 12th semester, focusing on art and media under Prof. Martin Liebscher and Prof. Wolfgang Luy. Karolin Back is also studying Visual Communication, in her 10th semester, focusing on art and media under Prof. Martin Liebscher.

The award, which was introduced in 2010, is for students at the Offenbach Academy of Art and Design who focus on the medium of photography in their studies. The presentation is made as part of the annual show at the Offenbach University of Art and Design. The award panel this year comprised Barbara Klemm, photographer, Professor Bernd Kracke, President of the University of Art and Design, and Anne-Marie Beckmann, curator of the Art Collection Deutsche Börse.
