2011 Deutsche Börse and Academy of Art and Design Photo Advancement Award presented to Florian Albrecht-Schoeck

Release date: Jul 01, 2011

On 30 June, Deutsche Börse together with the Offenbach Academy of Art and Design (Hochschule für Gestaltung, HfG) presented the second Deutsche Börse and Academy of Art and Design Photo Advancement Award (Deutsche Börse und HfG Fotoförderpreis) to a young artist. Florian Albrecht-Schoeck was the recipient of the award, which is endowed with € 2,500. The award, which was started in 2010, is for students at the Offenbach Academy of Art and Design who focus on the medium of photography in their studies. The presentation is made as part of the annual show at the Academy of Art and Design. The award panel this year comprised Barbara Klemm, photographer, Professor Bernd Kracke, President of the Academy of Art and Design, and Anne-Marie Beckmann, curator of Art Collection Deutsche Börse. They gave the following reasons for their decision: “Florian Albrecht-Schoeck’s work “Short Story” (Kurz Geschichte) about the Museum of Arts and Cultural History in Marburg isn't just convincing through its fantastic photographic glimpse behind the scenes and at the history of the museum. It is also a sensitive and sometimes witty portrait of a museum, which has in itself become an exhibition piece. “Short Story” is supplemented by the monumental wall piece “In the Storehouse” (Im Lager), which shows the museum's painting storage rooms from the front in their original size and is reminiscent of an oversized barcode.”

Florian Albrecht-Schoeck has been studying visual communication with a focus on photography under Professor Martin Liebscher at the Offenbach Academy of Art and Design since 2006. His work will stay on display until Sunday, 3 July, as part of the 14th Academy of Art and Design show.
