ESG product strategy

ESG product strategy

Our ESG product strategy consists of three main components. First, we aim to increase the transparency of our market participants while remaining a neutral provider of market infrastructure. To this end, we publish binding and non-binding transparency requirements and create incentives for companies to publish ESG information. Secondly, we offer innovative product solutions to increase information transparency from an investor perspective. This is done by providing ratings, data and indices that enable the assessment of the ESG performance of listed companies. In addition, we operate trading, clearing and custody services that determine volumes and prices for securities, carbon credits, funds and commodities.

Finally, we analyse product quality and customer satisfaction to understand customer needs, identify areas for improvement and meet regulatory requirements.

Deutsche Börse Group offers access to ESG products and marketplaces across all asset classes through its individual business areas.

ESG plays a vital role in Deutsche Börse Group’s pre-trading business area. Through targeted acquisitions, we have placed particular focus on the development of ESG products. Our index and analytics provider Qontigo works to expand its family of sustainability indices (STOXX®, DAX®). Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) provides ESG data, analytics and proxy voting services. From a central position in governance, ISS has become a major global ESG player with comprehensive ESG coverage and a specified rating system.

With its products and services, the business area trading & clearing also actively supports the transformation process towards a sustainable economy. In securities trading with Xetra® as the leading trading venue for ESG ETFs in Europe, in futures trading on Eurex with the broadest range of ESG derivatives globally, and with the European Energy Exchange (EEX) with emissions markets and guarantees of origin.

In post-trading, we take a targeted approach to promoting a variety of ESG product initiatives. In the wake of regulatory changes, sustainability issues in general are gaining traction, with a particular focus on aspects such as transparency and governance. As a market infrastructure, it is the ambition of Clearstream to play a vital role in this development.
