Responsibility

Dear reader,

In our last issue before the summer break, we talked about proximity in terms of the close exchange with our employees and stakeholders. In a recent LinkedIn blog, Martin Jetter, our Chairman of the Supervisory Board, elaborated on the fact that the latter are becoming increasingly important for companies – a development which does not necessarily run counter to so-called “shareholder value”.

With proximity comes responsibility. We are all aware of our obligations towards those closest to us. In social structures and a globalised world, our sense of responsibility transcends our own closer circle of family and friends to include the broader context of community and environment. The same is true for companies. As corporate citizens, they are part of the society in which they operate and recruit employees.

Times of crisis create the opportunity to renew our awareness of the challenges facing society as a whole and our personal responsibility. Private individual, institution, or company – it is up to us all as a society to master challenges through joint efforts. At Deutsche Börse, we face up to this responsibility with full conviction.

Organising safe, stable, and transparent capital markets is our most important value contribution to society. As an employer of more than 10,000 colleagues globally, we regard their well-being as part of our responsibility. And with more than 60 company locations, we understand our role as members of global society to extend into each individual location. In tune with this conviction, we aim to “think global, act local” in our approach to social engagement.

The future will certainly test society’s sense of responsibility. Working together as part of a greater whole, we’ll succeed in whatever lies ahead.

I hope you enjoy reading this newest edition of our newsletter.

Kind regards,
Oliver Frischemeier
Head of Corporate Communications & Engagement
