Release date: 26 Oct 2020 | Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation

“Viewfinder – Fotografie und Film im Dialog” (Photography and Film in Dialogue) - Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation and Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum Frankfurt (DFF) to show exhibition and film series “Through the eyes of Magnum“

- Works from the Art Collection Deutsche Börse to be presented from 3. November 2020 – 3. January 2021 at the DFF

- A film series from November 3 to the end of December 2020 in the DFF cinema will be dedicated to the view of the renowned agency Magnum Photos, Inc.

The Magnum photographers' connection to film is almost as old as the Magnum Photos, Inc. agency itself. They have not only accompanied countless shootings on set but have also captured, and sometimes even shaped, the visual language of cinema in their work. As part of their cooperation project “Viewfinder – Fotografie und Film im Dialog” (Photography and Film in Dialogue) Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation and Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum Frankfurt (DFF) are devoting themselves to this exciting constellation.

Starting in early November, they will show a new film series and an exhibition of works from the Art Collection Deutsche Börse, including works by Philipp Jones Griffiths, Harry Gruyaert, Thomas Hoepker and Alec Soth. This will be presented at the DFF under the title "Through the Eyes of Magnum".

The documentary "Cinema through the eyes of Magnum" from the year 2017 will kick off on November 3 and the exhibition at the DFF will also be officially opened at 7 p.m. that evening, considering the general security measures. The DFF's film program will show various documentaries as well as theme-related feature films such as The Misfits, Apocalypse Now or Life. The occasion for this edition of the Viewfinder series is the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation’s extensive exhibition "Open for Business - Magnum photographers on commission", which is currently on display at The Cube in Eschborn. It shows commercial commissioned works by over 50 Magnum members from around 60 years, including numerous commissions from the film industry.

Information for visitors:

The exhibition will be opened by DFF Director Ellen M. Harrington and Anne-Marie Beckmann, Director, Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation on Tuesday, 3 November, at 7.30 pm.
Subsequently, the first film, Cinema through the eyes of Magnum, is screening at 8.30 pm. In view of the current COVID-19 situation a registration by e-mail to kino@dff.film is required for the opening. Current information about visits and the hygiene concept can be found on DFF’s homepage.

The exhibition "Open for Business - Magnum photographers on commission" will be presented at The Cube in Eschborn from 23 October to 22. Current information about visits and the hygiene concept can be found on the Foundation's homepage.
